To help you see all of the sights during your vacation, Chalet Village has put together a guide to four of the most scenic views in Gatlinburg TN and the Smoky Mountains.
1. Gatlinburg Space Needle
For stunning views of the downtown area and the mountains, you’re best bet is the Gatlinburg Space Needle. This 407 foot tall observation tower offers breathtaking panoramas of the city and the Smokies, which you can enhance with the Space Needle’s free viewfinders. In addition to its observation deck, the Gatlinburg Space Needle also features great entertainment and dining. Guests will find a fun arcade, an excellent pizza restaurant, and Las Vegas calibre shows at the Iris Theater.
2. Clingmans Dome
Clingmans Dome provides some of the very best views in the Smokies. At 6,643 feet, it is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the highest point in the state of Tennessee. From atop Clingmans Dome’s observation tower, guests will enjoy 360 degree views of the Smoky Mountains that expand over 100 miles on a clear day. The paved walking path to the observation tower is quite steep, but enjoying the marvelous views from the summit is totally worth it!
3. Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook
As you probably guessed by its name, the Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook is one of the top spots to enjoy scenic views in Gatlinburg TN. What makes this overlook so impressive is the dramatic contrast between the city of Gatlinburg and the surrounding mountains. While the Gatlinburg skyline rests at an elevation of about 1,300 feet, visitors can look over and see Mount LeConte, which is 6,593 feet tall. The difference in elevation between the city and Mount LeConte is one vertical mile, which is the largest contrast of its type in the eastern half of the country. The Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook is very easy to get to, as it is located right along the Gatlinburg Bypass.
4. Cades Cove
When it comes to beautiful scenery, Cades Cove truly has it all. This breathtaking valley offers mountain vistas, historic buildings from the pioneer days, and some of the national park’s very best wildlife viewing. If you’re hoping to spot white-tailed deer, wild turkey, or black bears, this is the place to go! Cades Cove is simple to navigate, since the valley contains an 11 mile one way loop road that passes by all of the valley’s major landmarks.
